Andrea Wynn

I am a fully funded MSE student, researcher, and teaching assistant in the Computer Science department at Princeton University, working on my thesis advised by Dr. Tom Griffiths in the Princeton Computational Cognitive Science Lab. I worked with Expedia Group in summer 2023 as a Machine Learning Science Intern.

I received a B.S. in both Computer Science and Mathematics from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in May 2022, and have completed software engineering internships at Amazon Web Services, Kratos Defense & Security Solutions, and Collins Aerospace, and a research internship at Circa.

While at Rose-Hulman, I received many awards, including the Herman A. Moench Distinguished Senior Commendation, Frank Young Outstanding Service Award, and Henry Turner Eddy Award for Applied Mathematics, among others.

My paper, Learning Human-like Representations to Enable Learning Human Values, has been accepted to AAAI 2024 as part of the Human-Centric Representation Learning Workshop!

Research

I'm a member of the Princeton Computational Cognitive Science Lab, supervised by Dr. Tom Griffiths, where I am investigating value and representational alignment between humans and large language models in a reinforcement learning setting.

Learning Human-like Representations to Enable Learning Human Values

Accepted to AAAI 2024, Human-Centric Representation Learning Workshop. Preprint available here. Additional results in submission to ICML.

Making AI systems learn human-like representations of the world has many known benefits, including improving generalization, robustness to domain shifts, and few-shot learning performance, among others. We propose that this kind of representational alignment between machine learning (ML) models and humans is also a necessary condition for alignment with human values and objectives. We demonstrate this by training multiple ML agents in a multi-armed bandit setting and studying the relationship between their degree of representational alignment with humans and their performance when learning to take ethical actions.

Spectral Touching Points in Two-Dimensional Materials
Andrea Wynn
SIURO, 2022

I find and prove the existence of Dirac conical points in multiple 2D materials under certain conditions on electric potential, a property which has been conjectured to be related to the unique properties of graphene. I additionally discovered and proved the existence of a new type of spectral touching point, which I named the mesa touching point.
